War against Mother Nature!

Are Wars (People killing people) ever justifiable? I think not. As a matter of fact besides being inhuman, wars are simply stupid. 

Since I stated that wars are stupid, I better explain myself. 

Historically certain powerful Nations have gone to war against their so-called "enemies" and managed to destroy them causing much property destruction, loss of lives and extreme pain to their Loved ones. Afterwards, once the war was over, they then became friends, and the very Countries that destroyed the other Countries, actually helped to rebuild such Countries! Today these so-called enemies are friends. (After much cost, destruction and the loss of millions of lives! Does this make sense?)

The question that comes to mind is why go to war to begin with? I am not pointing at any one Nation, as I stated above I believe all such wars are stupid.

At one time or another, the following countries were at war, (Those that come to mind) Egypt, Italy, Turkey, England, Germany, Russia and the United States. Now these very Countries are friendly towards one another? (Thank God) Are we supposed to believe that all of the People that live in the Countries mentioned above were bad and now they have all changed? I believe that People are people and that there are good people and bad People no matter where they happen to live. I also believe that the good People outnumber the Bad and I am hoping that such a majority have learned that wars are stupid and to stand by their beliefs.

Many years ago a smart person stated that "The Pen is Mightier than the Sword", this was true then and it is similarly true today. When it comes to people, wars are caused from lack of understanding. (Lack of communication) Instead of Pens, we may now use "Computers", lets put them to good use, lets communicate with one another and lets promote peace, understanding and Love towards one another. 

If certain people feel the need to flex their muscles by going to war, I say to them, OK, go to war, but instead of fighting and killing people, start a war against "Mother Nature" (Natural Disasters) instead. Who in his or her right mind would dispute this?

There are many natural disasters on Earth that cause havoc to humans, trying to overcome such disasters would keep many Nations busy fighting (So to speak) and accomplishing much Good for a change! (Even if the monetary cost seem insurmountable)

(The following Natural Disasters should be looked upon as Peoples' enemies, not other People?)

Natural disasters include: 
Wild Fires, Volcanic Eruptions, Avalanches, Tidal Waves, Earthquakes, Landslides, Flooding, Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Cyclones, Lahars, Drought, Typhoons, Diseases and Famine. 

I realize that fighting Mother Nature may be looked upon as a futile undertaking and my not being a scientist, I am not in a position to comment when it comes to fighting certain disasters. Utilizing just common sense, however, I will suggest that people could fight and win when going against certain Natural Disasters; those that we know could be controlled. (What a challenge it would be to fight certain Natural Disasters that presently appear to be hopeless?) 

The two Natural Disasters that I feel could be fought and overcome now, are Drought and Floods! 

As a matter of fact Floods and Drought in themselves and by themselves could be "Killers", however, in certain areas, one Natural Disaster could actually help the other Natural Disaster by Peoples' ingenuity. (In this instance, People have the capacity to turn two Disaster areas into livable safe areas!)

An example of the above occurs frequently in the Mid West, in the USA! There are places in the US that suffer from water shortage and other places that get flooded continuously, year after year! I am not aware that people perished due to water shortage in the US, however, people have lost their homes and many people have lost their very lives from flooding! (Costing US Taxpayers Billions of Dollars!)

Both disaster areas could be changed and made more desirable (Made safe) by diverting controlling the dangerous water from the flooded areas and sent to other areas in need of water.

True the cost to divert such water would be costly, be it via Channels, man made Rivers, or Piping, however, once this is done, the cost would be in maintenance. 
Such cost would be much less than the cost of having to constantly rebuild homes year after year and certainly such a cost is justifiable when considering saving peoples' lives, peoples' safety and added new jobs. (Actually there are certain States that would be willing to pay for the above mentioned water).

I wish that the US Government would correct the above-mentioned imbalance, the one that I mentioned above, namely in the Mid West. This would not only accomplish what I stated above, it would also set an example to other Nations of how a smart good caring Government is able to help its people. (I am sure that this would be publicized since the monetary cost would be horrendous!)

I am not picking on the US, I just happen to live in the US and I would love it if it were first to set such a good example.

Having stated this, if other Countries decide to wage war against Natural Disasters, I would say, "Good for them".

Bottom line, I think that it is high time that people have learned by their mistakes, by admitting that wagering wars against People is stupid and unacceptable, however, wagering war against Mother Nature, is acceptable. (Acceptable and wise)
